Any feedlot, sale barn or packing plant can participate in Cattle Trax
as long as it meets the
following conditions:
- First, the feedlot, sale barn, or packing plant must practice individual animal management.
(Note: This does not mean all data need be
collected and stored on an animal basis but any group data must
be adjusted to an individual animal basis prior to exporting to Cattle Trax.)
- Second, the feedlot, sale barn, or packing plant management software being used to capture
and record the data must be able to cross-reference it with an
EID, because the EID is the “key” data field in Cattle Trax to which any data relevant to that particular animal is then
attached. (Note: This does not mandate
scanning of EIDs just the ability to cross-reference any visual
ID to the electronic ID.)
- Finally, the feedlot, sale barn, or packing plant management software must be able to
export the data in a standard format (tab-delimited or
comma-delimited text, for example).
If these three conditions are met, the following steps can be
followed to enter feedlot, sale barn, or packing plant data into the
Cattle Trax system:
- First, the feedlot, sale barn, or packing plant collects data as they normally do and
record it using their management software program, making sure to
cross-reference any collected data with an EID number.
- Then, once all the desired data has been collected, export the
data to a standard-formatted file.
- Finally, email the exported data file to support@apeis.com.
The data should be imported and therefore accessible via the
internet within one business day.
Most feedlots and sale barns can meet the above requirements. We have compiled a
list of feedlots, sale
barns, and packing
plants that have
been verified to meet these requirements and will work with Cattle Trax. |
